Human Resources
Task 1
Human Resources
Define Human resources.
Human
resources is used to describe both the people who work for a company or
organization and the department responsible for managing all matters related to
employees. Concerning the department, it is fair to say that its main focuses
are Recruiting and staffing, Compensation and benefits, Training and learning,
Labor and employee relations, and Organization development.
What is the role of human resources? Define in detail.
Its more important role is talent management
and labor and employee relations because of its importance to keep a company
operating properly. Even though, it is a very complete department where many activities
like the ones mentioned above take place. Some career titles needed to operate
are Training development specialist, HR manager, Benefits specialist, Human
resource generalist, Employment services manager, Compensation and job analysis
specialist, Training and development manager, Recruiter, Benefits counselor and
Personnel analyst, so this allows us to see how big and important is to manage
employees.
What is Capital?
It refers
to anything that can be used for productive purposes, there are three main
kinds like economic, human and social. Human capital refers to the skills and
abilities a company's employees bring to the operation.
In your opinion, is human resources necessary? Explain.
Totally, since without it there is no way to
produce anything, even if most of the production processes are automated it is
always necessary some handmade ones, it is also necessary a lot of people
working on administrative tasks to keep the company running. And let's not
forget about all the responsibilities they have like Recruiting and
staffing, Training and learning, Labor and employee relation, etc.
What are
the main areas of Human resources?
-
Recruiting and staffing
-
Compensation and benefits
-
Training and learning
-
Labor and employee relations
-
Organization development
Define Human resource management.
It is about developing and administering programs that are designed to
increase the effectiveness of an organization or business through its
employees.
What are
the main responsibilities of a Human Resource Manager? Define them in detail.
- Addressing
current employee concerns: Unlike company managers who oversee the day-to-day
work of employees, HR departments deal with employee concerns such as benefits,
pay, employee investments, pension plans, and training. Their work may also
include settling conflicts between employees or between employees and their
managers.
- Acquiring
new employees: The human resource management team recruits potential employees,
oversees the hiring process (background checks, drug testing, etc.), and
provides new employee orientation.
- Improving
morale: Effective HR teams encourage company employees to do their best, which
contributes to the overall success of the company. Their work often involves
rewarding employees for good performance and creating a positive work
environment.
- Define
and align organizational purposes: A company’s employees must be able to
clearly articulate why the company exists in order to achieve a purpose-driven,
sustainable, high-performing organization. Employees must also understand how
their efforts connect, or align, with the organization’s purpose.
- Focus
on employee strengths: Companies must make every effort to understand what
candidates and employees do best and put them into roles where they can play to
their strengths as much as possible.
Which of the responsibilities you mentioned in the previous questions do you think is the most challenging on a HRM? Why?
I think all of them can be challenging in some
level but if I have to pick one I would say acquiring new employees because
once they are hired they represent a cost caused by training programs, uniforms
and sometimes transportation, so it is expected they have a good performance
but if they do not, they are not giving to the company nothing in return. Same happens
with people who does not fit the values or organizational culture and then has
problems to integrate in the teamwork. So, it is important to have “a good eye”
on who you are hiring to avoid problems as much as possible.
What are
the most important skills of a Human Resource Manager?
-
Excellent
verbal and written communication skills.
-
Excellent
interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
-
Excellent
organizational skills and attention to detail.
-
Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability
to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
-
Ability
to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
-
Thorough
knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
-
Proficiency
with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations talent management
systems.
Hello Fer! I like your job. I think your opinion on Human Resources is really true. There is no company or organization without the employees and even though there are a lot of robots replacing job there is always a task that a human needs to do in order to accomplish the company’s goals. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's totally good your explanation in every answer, it's a little confusing topic for me, but it's clear with your work, thank you :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I really liked your definitions, I think they are very complete and easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteHello Fer!!! I really liked your answer to question 3, I also share the same point of view, besides that you defined the concept of "capital" very clearly and without much extension. :D
ReplyDeleteHello, I feel like your answers were complete. When you defined capital, it was good that you included social, human and economic capital. Something that i did not include in my blog. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi, i like your research, your answers are clear concise.
ReplyDeleteIt is a highly developed job with a lot of dedication
ReplyDeleteHi Fer! I like your work and your work are always complementing mines like in the definition of human resoures I didn't write "both the people who work for a company or organization and the department responsible for managing all matters related to employees." I only wrote about the department of a company in charge of the workforce (simplified)
